What is a DMV exam?

What does a DMV exam include?

Eye health history review

She discusses your medical history, eye health history, vision, and if you currently wear contact lenses or glasses. She also asks about any challenges with seeing clearly while driving or completing other daily activities. 

Eye chart tests

You might read letters or numbers from an eye chart to evaluate your far vision during a DMV exam. You can wear your contacts or glasses during this test. Cover your left eye when reading the numbers with your right eye, then cover your right eye to assess your left eye’s vision.

Visual field testing

If you need a visual field test, Dr. Silva checks for peripheral vision loss. Simply look straight ahead during the test and watch for lights to the side of your central video to appear. 

Color vision testing

Color vision testing determines if you can see colors effectively or would have difficulty detecting certain colors, reducing your ability to drive safely. 

Eye disease screening

During a DMV eye exam, Dr. Silva can also screen for eye diseases that may affect your vision, such as cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration. What happens after a DMV exam?
